This is a place for any Toyer families out there who have roots in Caribbean islands (specifically linked with Chandler, Dowden, Gill, Greaves, Medford, Searles[/]).

• Reginald TOYER (1880) married Florance SEARLES (1878) in 1898 Grenada
• Mildred TOYER (1896) married Flavius CHANDLER (1881) in 1916 Grenada
• Addie TOYER married Doyle Percival DOWDEN in Trinidad

"I remember that my grandmother, Addie TOYER (maiden name)... she told me that her family name ie she is decendant from Whitehead's which in turn is my family... They were Irish if I'm not mistaken. Sooo cool... My grandfather (her first husband) is Doyle Percival Dowden... He was from Grenada! My dad is Davidson Renrick Dowden (or fondly called Dave). I do know that Stella Dowden, Doyle's sister lives in Australia now...I do not know my Great grand parents on my Dad's side... But on Addie TOYER's side.... here goes... My great-grandmom was Miriam TOYER (Ma) and my great-granddad was Isaac TOYER (Pa)... Addie and Doyle had four kids... My aunt Carole Dowden, uncles Allen Dowden and Ralph Dowden and my dad Davidson Dowden... But they are not close at alllll. I barely know my cousins... Ashley, Adrian, Brandon Sparkle, Marc Andre and one more boy... yea dats wat I mean..."

On 31 August 2009 Zandrine Edwards replied to Christianna's post:
"Your grandfather, Doyle Dowden's father was Franklin Dowden from Mt. Moritz, Grenada. Franklin's father was William Dowden who moved to Grenada from Scotland as a child (don't know at what age) with his sisters. Franklin was one of at least ten children. Doyle had six or seven siblings. Doyle's aunt is still alive at 96 and living in Trinidad. Her name is Violet. My grandmother Shirley Edwards nee Dowden (dau. of William Dowden & Louise Millie Chandler) was Doyle's aunt."

Is anyone in Grenada able to track the TOYER line. Christianna and Zandrine know some of the Dowden link to the family. But what of the name further back.

The Chandler's married a TOYER during WWI in 1916 this was Flavius Chandler (b.abt 1881 d.1928) married Mildred TOYER.

The Searles' married a TOYER in 1898 this was Florence Searles (b.abt 1878 Guyana) to Reginald TOYER (b.abt 1880).

The Greaves' family (B'dos) married into the TOYER family in 1881 this was Josephine Anna Greaves (b.abt 1863) and Joseph Thomas O'Neal TOYER (b.abt 1861). Of cause there are other Greaves marrying TOYER members.

Christianna Juanita Dowden - do you know whom you were named after was it perhaps an old name in the family - perhaps for a Christiana TOYER (born & died 1898) of Mt. Moritz - her parents were Thomas O'Neil TOYER and Sarah (m.abt 1884). Did her siblings marry into anyone's families?

"Today I went by my grandmother once again and I was learning more about my family.  I saw the names mentioned above - Miriam Toyer and Isaac Toyer.  Those are my great grandparents.  I got a picture it's so ancient so I'm going to renew it and put it on my dresser.  My parents are Camille Toyer and Rodney Toyer.  My grandmother is Loretta Toyer and I don't know much about my grandfather. I live in Trinidad.

So Christianna you would know uncle Cecil and uncle Wanye who live in Diego Martin (Trinidad)?"

"Hi Giselle, my great grans are also Miriam and Isaac... Loretta is my dad's aunt which makes you my dad's cousin and you're my 2nd cousin... I live in trini too. Nice to meet family. I know aunty Loretta... my granny is Addie Toyer.
I saw your mom, she was by us earlier this year when my granny (her sis) came down."
