Stanley Bailey and his distant cousin Ernest have found a relation:

Josiah Gabriel Alleyne SEARLES (c.1859) of St Thomas, Barbados
is the son of John William Francis SEARLES and Ann Leacock Cheltenham (married 1857). His siblings are Julia Isabella Brereton Searles (1861) and Amanda Fitt Alleyne Searles (1866).

Josiah married Jane Irvin GREAVES (1866) in St James, Barbados 1884.
Haven't found any children yet.

Has anyone done any work at linking the SEARLES and the WHITEHEAD families. I found the following two but have wondered if anyone has them (or similar) in their family line:-

Charles Henry SEARLES (c.1843 Barbados) married Mary Elizabeth WHITEHEAD (~.1844) on 24/12/1867 Saint James Barbados.

Cornelius SEARLES (c.1855) married Jane Elizabeth WHITEHEAD (b.?) on 08/08/1878 Saint James Barbados.

I have found a little on 'Searles' plantation estate is in Christ Church, Barbados -

From 1652 Daniel Searle was acting governor of Barbados when he took over from George Ayscue. 1654 Daniel Searle was made governor of Barbados.

In 1656 a John Colan Searle (a laborer from Cornwall England) left from Bristol for Barbados.

In 1657 Daniel Searle (Governor) owned 'Mount Clapham' estate in St Michael Barbados the year before he married JOAN LEWIS when they then had John Searle (c1659).

In 1673 it's recorded that Col. Daniel Searle [the Gov.] owned 500 acres and may have remarried (or a son) Daniel Searle married DOROTHY DORCE.

Then 1674 Daniel's son John Searle owned 631 acre Searle's estate in Christ Church Barbados and passed it by1683 (when he married PHILIS GARNSEY) to Ann Searle and Tobias Frere. In 1742 Tobias Frere was the owner up until he died in 1801 then it was passed to William Prescod. William Hinds Prescod still owned it in 1846 and not until 1914 was it passed to Lady & Joseph Briggs (it was enlarged by 23 acres) and then in 1924-1947 to Herbert G. Briggs.

John Searl Esq and Tobias Frere Esq (with Wm1 Frere, Wm2 Frere and John Frere) are in Christ Church on the 1680 census.

The estate by now consists of about 654 acres and by 1914 was owned by Lady Briggs. The same family continued there at least until 1947 with Herbert G. & Ors. Briggs in 1924 and H. G. Briggs was still manager in 1947.
