This is a place for any Chandler families out there who have roots in Caribbean islands (possibly linked with Dowden, Gill, Greaves, Medford, Searles, Whitehead, and others).

Examples:
James CHANDLER (c.abt.1861 Hermitage Grenada, d.aft.1904 Mt Moritz Grenada). Married Henrietta ? abt 1880. They had at least six children - Flavius (1881), Louise 'Millie' (1887), Evandner (1890), and 3 boys (1896, 1902, 1904).

Orin CHANDLER (b.1933 Grand Mal, St. George Grenada). She died this year on the 1st February 2009 at the young age of 76 years.

Orin Chandler (born 1933)
Her funeral service was on Friday 6th February 2009 (at 2pm) at the Mt. Moritz Pentecostal Church (the oldest PAWI church on the island established May 1927), she then received acc SDA rites and was interred at the Mt. Moritz Cemetery.

Are you able to tell her story, who her family was, share fotos...?

There is a Chandler DNA Project which has four participants with roots in Barbados. Three live in Australia, though one was born in Barbados in 1948 and migrated there. The fourth lives in Barbados (having recently moved there from Trinidad to work). One of the Australian participants has not yet shared his lineage with us.

The earliest known ancestor was Christopher Chandler (d.1729 St Lucy Barbados)

An even earlier reference to CHANDLER in the Caribbean is Giles Chandler (from London England) a 'brazier' (metal worker) who left via Bristol in July 1659.

Then a few lears later John CHANDLER left Bristol in April 1662.

In 1665 a Nicholas CHANDLER married ANNE PUG in St. Michael, Barbados.

In 1678 Margaret Chandler (wife of Robert CHANDLER) is buried in St. Michael Barbados.

In the 1680 Barbados census John CHANDLER is registered in St. Lucy; Nicholas CHANDLER in St. Michael and Richard CHANDLER in St. Joseph.

In August 1782 David CHANDLER is christened in St Lucy, Barbados (his father was also David CHANDLER his mother Catharine). He married in 1798 to Elizabeth.

In 1799 Paul CHANDLER married Mary Seale.
...

By 1914 The Chandler's own 140 acre 'Hope' in St George Barbados (Thomas C Chandler); 350 acre 'Alleynedale' in St Peter (Mrs E. D. Chandler); 308 acre 'Portland' and 240 acre 'Six Mens' both in St Peter (Dr W. K. Chandler); and 10 acre 'Overtons' in St Joseph (E. H Chandler).

Then in 1924 Chandler's own 29 acre 'Small Hope' (E L Chandler) and 296 acre 'Todds' (John D Chandler) both in St John; 'Alleynedale' in St Peter is now 517 acres (still E D Chandler but decd Est); 'Portland' now 325 acres and 'Six Mens' [a tenantry part of Whitehall plantation] now only 30 acres (both St Peter and still owned by Dr W K Chandler); J E Chandler leases 'Edge Cliff' plantation (60 acres) in St John, Barbados to W H Greaves; and John D Chandler also leases 'Ebworth' (260 acres) in St Peter, Barbados to C J P Cave.

And as recently as 1947 the Chandler's still own 'Todds' (John D Chandler), 'Alleynedale' and 'Portland' (Dr W K Chandler now decd Est), and now 246 acre 'Bowmanston' in St John (part owned by J D Chandler which belonged to GL Pile) and 180 acre "Whitehall" in St Peter (part owned by R Chandler).
