A Sacramento native paid his $14,000 tuition to the University of Colorado, Boulder in $1 bills.

Nic Ramos says he's trying to get people thinking about the increasing cost of an education. The $14,000 out-of-state tuition is for one semester at his university.

"It was quit a sight and they said that nobody had even payed in ones before," Ramos told KDVR in Colorado.

Ramos calling his mom, Kathleen Ramos, in Sacramento to tell her about his unusual way of paying his tuition.

"Little surprised that he would go to those lengths and then at the same time not surprised because Nic has always been different," said Kathleen Ramos.

What started out as a cool idea for Nic Ramos turned into something bigger: a way to put the cost of education on the table.

"Tuition has gone up so much and there are a lot of kids who don't have a family who can send them to school. There are a lot of children who have to pay for their own education, who have to take out loans," says Kathleen Ramos.

probably not at the school itself, but it does address a wider issue. our public school system has failed us so much, that a high school diploma is all but worthless. and now an AA is becoming the same way. today, if you really want a leg up, you have to pay for a master's.

Man...I can SO relate to this topic....and I'm in the middle of funding a second child through higher education.  I'd like to think that the sacrifices we make will make a difference...but it is awfully depressing to think of those students who will have to take out thousands of dollars in education loans in order to get a good job out of college!  Luckily for us....my son was able to get a very good job as an accountant...and has since passed his CPA exam and makes good money.  We were able to fund about half of his education -- and we are doing our best to try and do the same for my daughter's education.  I guess it will mean many more years of hamburgers...instead of steaks!  My daughter's tuition (including her room and board, books, etc.) is expected to be $18,876.  What is even more outrageous than the expense of college...is the expense of books!  Luckily, we were told about a book "rental" place called chegg.com which you can rent the textbooks you need and then return them postage paid to the company.  My daughter's books for next school year will be even MORE expensive, since she's studying nursing.  We've already been warned that for one semester, the books will be about $1,000!!! YIKES!

Around 6 months ago I walked into the bank, Yes, I walked in...
Guess not many people do this anymore because all I saw was the backs of heads
all the tellers were facing the drive-thru and when one turned with a shocked look
and then walked over to me, as serious as I could I slide a penny toward her and said,

"I would like to deposit this in my bank acount."

She looked at me funny and did her best not to laugh...

Now why did I do this?

First, because I wanted to see their expression to the penny deposit

Second, because this is a secondary account and they charged me $2.00 for inactivity
so this penny transaction triggered activity...

Now the silly thing is... inactivity costs me $2.00 but technically it costs the bank absolutely nothing!

But if I was to go into the bank every day and deposit a penny and then the next day withdraw the penny
then the next day deposit the previously withdrawn penny in a never ending coin toss...

This would end up costing the Bank Money for every transaction made!
just the receipts alone would add up to more then a penny...

but it would only cost me a pit stop at the bank and a laugh ;p

Yes it is!

As I always say, "College is a Money Making Business not an Educational System"

Now let me ask you,
If they charge so much for tuition then why do I have to pay tax to the college????

Yep, I pay $200 a year tax for the local university....

(Every House in the City) x ($200 tax) = MEGA BUCKS!

Years ago I took an English class, we were supposed to have the 5th edition of the textbook. I used my friends 3rd edition. There were so few minor changes that it didn't make a damn bit of difference!
