This is a PDF file for a water storage rack from a website called Utah Preppers. It is recommends to add at least one if not 2 extra support boards across the middle (or 1/3 from the front and back if adding 2) of the barrel because possibility of not enough support. I can see where a barrel full of water could crack if there happens to be a change in temperature.
