I have a 2009 Subaru legacy.. It came with a stock Harman Kardon rear deck lid subwoofer.. The sub is blown and I am looking to replace it.  It is an 8" sub and I am wondering if any of the Rockford 8" subs will work in a Free air set up or if I am going to have to build a fiberglass box to go under the deck lid.  I plan on putting a new amp in so that is not a concern right now

probably gonna wanna make an enclosure for the sub. most rockford subs arent recommended for free air/IB type.

How you doing man,

We had a few threads on infinite baffle over at the old RF forum a few times. Snafu has actually done a pretty good build log on running the P3's IB. From what he said, although RF doesnt "reccomend" their subs for IB, they are definitely mechanically sound enough to run IB no problems. He said his sounded absolutely amazing, but his was a really good actual install for IB, not just the car's stock setup.

You can also look into RF's marine line of woofers, as they are actually BUILT for free air usage.
