I took this class with Beckmann and he required 2 books along with a textbook. I never used the textbook so I advise you guys not to waste your money buying it.

The 2 books that you will need are James Madison by Richard Brookhiser (ISBN 987-0-465-01983-0) and Winner-Takes-All Politics by Jacob S. hacker & Paul Pierson (ISBN 978-1-4165-8870-2)
